Welcome! I am so grateful that you’re here!
I love food, especially when it is plant-based! There is nothing better to me than a massaged kale salad, a veggie sandwich on the go, a cashew cheese plate & a nice glass of wine, or a sinful vegan cupcake (or two).
The original “Vegenista” blog was born in November 2009 when a very dear friend of mine, Andi, & her husband Kevin, decided to adopt a vegan diet. Knowing I was raised vegetarian, & eating mostly vegan at the time, Andi had plenty of questions & I had plenty of answers. After bombarding her email account with forwards, links, & information & spending our work days talking more about food than about work – it struck me! Why not put all of this knowledge into a blog? So I did & vegenista.com unfolded.
Over the years, Vegenista evolved pretty organically taking many different shapes & forms. As the blog evolved I did too. I joined a local farm’s CSA program, began attending cooking classes, & began spending more time in my own kitchen cooking, crafting & experimenting & sharing it all on the blog. After 5 years of blogging on tumblr, there is quite a bit of content to sift through. I wanted a place where I could organize my recipes & make them more accessible to my readers, friends & family. Vegenista’s Kitchen is that place! Here you will find plant-based recipes of all types for breakfast, lunch, dinner & in between.
Why “Vegenista?” To be honest, it was my friend Andi who coined the name. I’ve always had an eye & appreciation for fashion & design, & she was always impressed with my outfits, ever changing hairstyles, & my growing collection of vegan handbags, accessories, & timepieces ~ not to mention the contents of my lunch bag! Hence, the “Vegenista” was born, like a fashionista, in vegetarian form. And to that point…just to be clear, I do not label myself as “Vegan.” I consider myself a strict, plant-based vegetarian. I keep a vegan home, but eat vegetarian out “in the world.” I purchase vegan goods & cruelty-free cosmetics & household items whenever possible. But I strive for progress, not perfection. As Colleen Patrick Goudreau says, “Don’t do nothing because you can’t do everything. Do something. Anything.” I love this approach. For me it is about living a well balanced life. I do not preach to or judge the diets or lifestyles of my friends, families, or others. I do have my opinions, but only share them when asked. So please, let’s allow this to be a space of safe, mindful & open dialogue. I honor your personal journey. All are welcome in my world.
